Our story of the week is about "Rules For Focused Success In A Distracted World" James' journey started nearly 20 years ago when he experienced a real life situation and turned his raw hunger to get out of being broke into a strong desire to be successful. This is an incredible question to ask: If you had lost everything and needed to start over, what would you do?
He focused on doing a few simple things and not worrying about all the rest. These are the steps he took to go from broke to a successful businessman. He was not interested in hustling. What he was incredibly interested in doing was those few simple things that make the biggest difference in allowing him to have the space and time to create exactly the life that he wanted.
It all starts with the fundamentals. And the better you get at it, the more often you will win at whatever you choose to do. For James it was to be a consultant that helped entrepreneurs grow and scaled their businesses. He needed to master and focus on the ONE THING… Understanding the people he was going to sell TO selling them something that solved a problem. That’s it… Nothing fancy! But don’t let the simplicity of these things fool you, when you follow the steps, you can literally control your destiny—even if you are starting from scratch.
The important thing is to identify what you are shooting for and you need to be clear on what your first target is. You see, most of us sacrifice our attention to the urgent things flying at us from all different directions—Facebook, email, text messages, phone calls. And while some of these things may be important from time to time, the MOST important thing you will ever do during your day is understanding what you truly need to do that day that will give you the biggest bang for your buck.
He strategized his way to success by setting the stage for being as effective as possible to actually get results. Success in business comes down to one main thing—finding a problem someone has and then getting them to pay you to solve it for them. Yes that’s it.
He reached out to everyone he met letting them know he started a new business and then asking them this question: “What is the single biggest challenge you’re currently facing in your business right now?” He let them talked and wrote down everything they said. He listened like his future depended on it. He wanted people to spill their guts to him. Regardless of the responses, he kept track of all their responses. He was just doing market research to create a future course— his AutoPilot Entrepreneur course.
Now that he had gotten a clear picture of WHO he was going to sell, he started doing some marketing! Marketing is creating a message targeted to your ideal client with the goal of getting them to raise their hand. His offer needed to showcase the results that people can expect to get when they work with him.
Because he wanted to be able to charge top dollar for his consulting but could not until he got the credibility. He created an irresistible offer by giving it away for FREE to his few first clients delivering massive values. Of course, he was in business to make money, not to just get people to like him. So he told them to give him a testimonial in exchange for his services to help him find more people like them and to create an amazing case study. Basically, he shared the offer and asked people to raise their hands, if they wanted to be part of his program.
Later on, after he had created great results for his Key Clients, he could go back to them and make an offer, but at that point he would be charging for it. Lastly, this will give him an opportunity to refine the way he communicated his offer to his target clients based on the feedback he got. He reached out to Facebook, Google and social media, and creating a custom workout plan for people who needing a sales funnel or new branding for their business.
The point was that he wanted to make money consulting entrepreneur to scale their businesses. He just needed to get his client over that hump for whatever was holding them back.
Now that he had gotten his Key Clients the result they really needed for FREE in exchange of a testimonial and referrals. He leveraged this experience to get his first PAYING clients. He build a High-Ticket Funnel and sent it out to his clients network who could benefit from his program as well and repeated the process over and over again.
This was a simple online automated sales funnel to grow and scale their business… It read like this— Attention: 6- And 7-Figure Entrepreneurs How To Turn Your Executive Assistant Into An Operation Rockstar To Help You Scale Your Business
He’ve done it. He started from scratch and build the framework for a successful consulting business that paid him handsomely years after years.
His advice… Don’t bite off more than you can chew. What will make you the greatest LEADER in the world is to work with people you genuinely can help AND those who you like.
